This flat glass is made by the “hand-blown cylinder method” which is no longer used. The method is to stretch the melted glass into a long cylinder with a blow rod, cut it open with a cutter, and spread it into a plate while heating it further. Due to the manual work, the glass surface remains distorted, creating a retro atmosphere.
Nowadays, there is no need to manufacture such flat glass, and it is a lost technology.
この板ガラスは、今は使われない「手吹き円筒法」で作られています。溶解したガラスを吹き竿で長い円筒状に延ばし、カッターで切り開いて、さらに熱しながら板状にひろげるという方法です。手作業のため、ガラス表面にはゆがみが残り、レトロな雰囲気を作り出します。
今はこのような板ガラスの製造は必要なく、失われてしまった技術です。
