“Maikake” is an apron. It’s meant to keep your clothes clean or to protect yourself. The old Japanese work apron “Maikake” is made of canvas and is durable. It is used in business sites such as liquor stores and rice stores, and on the other hand, it prints advertisements, so it seems that it was distributed to the people concerned.
This “Maikake” seems to have been given to the predecessor who shipped seaweed to Tokyo.
「まいかけ」は「前掛け」が変じたものです。衣服を汚さないようにするため、または己の身を守るためのものです。いわゆる日本のエプロンです。このスタイルの「まいかけ」は帆布でできていて丈夫です。酒屋さん、米屋さんなど、商売の現場で使われ、一方で広告を印刷しているので、関係者にも配ったようです。
この「まいかけ」は、東京に海藻を出荷していた先々代がもらったようです。
