In old Japanese architecture, the finer the house, the thicker the beam. It is made of a large tree that is over 60 years old and has supported a heavy roof for 100 years. Akeda’s beams are particularly impressive. Aunt Akeda’s husband, who was a carpenter, spoke proudly.
