ざくろ[Pomegranate]

Although it is a fruit cultivated throughout Asia, pomegranate is a fruit that is rarely sold in Japan. In Teshima, we harvest and eat what is planted in the garden or grows naturally in the mountains. Red flowers bloom in early summer and red round fruits grow in autumn. The red fruits are full of red cone-like seeds and eat the pulp around the seeds. The flesh is transparent like jelly and has a sweet taste.

It’s hard to eat one by one, so we make pomegranate fruit wine. The photo shows the pomegranate liquor being aged.

【ざくろ】ZAKURO

アジア全体で栽培されている果実ですが、日本ではザクロは販売されることが少ない果物です。豊島では庭に植えられていたり、山に自生しているものを収穫して食べます。初夏に赤い花が咲いて、秋には赤い丸い実が成ります。赤い実の中には、赤いコーンのような種がいっぱい詰まって、種のまわりの果肉を食べます。ゼリーのような透明感のある果肉で、甘い味がします。

一粒ずつ食べるのが大変なので、ザクロの果実酒にしたりします。写真はザクロ酒を熟成させているところです。
