An old-fashioned home-cooked restaurant using fresh local fish and vegetables
“Auntie’s Dining Urara in Teshima” was opened by a small private house in the Teshima Ieura area after renovating her home. The place is just across the street from the Yokoo Museum of Art
Dining is a quiet Japanese-style room with tatami mats overlooking the trees in the garden. There you will enjoy home-cooked dishes made with fresh local fish and vegetables.
On a sunny morning, the aunt rides a fishing boat with her husband and goes off the island for net fishing. They pull up the net. Then, seasonal fish, sea bream, rockfish, tanago, flatfish, flounder, chinu, etc. are caught.
Auntie prepares freshly picked fish one after another with skill, and makes use of the taste of those ingredients to make various dishes such as sashimi, grilled fish, tempura, vinegared fish, and boiled fish.
Vegetables used for cooking can be harvested in nearby fields. It is grown by the husband using a recycling-oriented farming method that uses organic fertilizer. Vegetables grow vigorously in the sunlight and sea breeze of Setouchi. Freshly picked vegetables are crispy, chewy, umami and fragrant.
Depending on your budget, you can also order raw fish such as flatfish and Thai, and special dishes such as blue crab, turban shell and abalone.
